Exploring the Mainland

The Hidden Gems of Busuanga Island

Hotel in Busuanga Coron

Most tourists only see the famous lagoons and shipwrecks, but Busuanga Island is much larger and has so much more to offer. If you stay longer and explore the “Inland,” you will discover a world of mountains, forests, and quiet beaches.

Nature and Hiking

The center of the island is filled with green hills, forests, and rivers. It is the perfect place for people who love nature:

  • Waterfalls: You can find several small but beautiful waterfalls, such as Concepcion Falls, Chinibayan Falls, and Degtayan Falls. They are great spots to cool down after a walk.
  • Bird Watching & Fireflies: There are excellent areas for kayaking. You can paddle through mangroves to watch rare birds during the day or experience a “magic” forest full of fireflies at night.

Rare Wildlife Encounters

Busuanga is home to some very special animals that you won’t find in other parts of the Philippines:

Dugong Watching: In the North-West, you can go on a boat to find the famous “sea cows” grazing on seagrass.

Calauit Safari Park: Located at the northwestern tip of the island (about a 3-hour drive from Coron Town). Here, you can see African animals like giraffes and zebras living in a tropical environment.

Beautiful Beaches Away from the Crowds

If you want to escape the busy boat tours, rent a motorcycle or a minibus and visit these peaceful coastal spots:

  • Ocam Ocam Beach (West): A quiet, tropical beach about 2.5 hours from Coron Town. It is the perfect place to relax.
  • Marcilla Beach (East): A hidden gem with golden sand and very few tourists.
  • Lakdayan (North): Another beautiful stretch of coast for those who love to explore.
